Numbers – Speed, Distance and Time

Courses Info

Speed, Distance and Time:

Speed

  • . Rate of change of distance
  • . Measured in mph – miles per hour, km/h – kilometres per hour and m/s – metres per second
  • . Distance measured in km – kilometres and m – metres
  • . Time measured in hour and seconds

Formula:

  1. To find a quantity, cover the corresponding letter.
  2. e.g to find distance, cover the letter ‘d’ and multiply speed by time

Example:

Q) What is the speed of a racing car travelling 100km every 4 hours?

Speed = Distance ÷ Time: 100 ÷ 4 = 25 km/h

A) 25 km/h

Tips:

. If the question then asks to work out the speed in m/s, multiply the answer by 1000 → 1000m = 1km and divide by 3600 3600s = 1 hour
