Map Scales and Scale Drawings
Courses Info
. The drawing of maps are scaled down because the actual length is too long
. The drawing length of buildings on a map is proportional to the real length
Drawing Length and Actual Length:
- Measure the distance between the two points on a map with a rule
- A scale of 1cm : 100m shows a 1cm measurement on the map is actually 100m in real life → workout the real length based on the measured length
Example:
The ratio of a map is 1cm : 300m. The distance between two places on the map is 12cm.
Q) What is the real distances between the two places
- The distance between both places is 12cm
- To get from 1cm to 12cm multiply by 12 therefore 300m x 12 → real distances = 3600m
A) 3600m
