What is a noun?
Nouns are names of a person, place, thing or idea.
What is a common noun?
Common nouns are the generic name of a person, place, thing or idea e.g. girl, boy, dog.
What is a proper noun?
A proper noun is a specific name given to something e.g. Adam, Labrador and London.
What is a compound noun?
A noun that is more than one word is called a compound noun e.g. football pitch, leisure centre.
Hints & Tips
In general, proper nouns are capitalised and common nouns are not capitalised.
